Many patients ask me why they are dealing with a chronic cough, ongoing digestive issues, chest pain, or persistent headaches. I typically inquire if there were any major events around the onset of these symptoms. More than 80% of them remember a significant event—or even a series of events—that brought deep grief, anxiety, or heartache.
Over the past two years, I went through some incredibly difficult times—losing my beloved mother to cancer, facing a painful end to a relationship, dealing with financial stress... During this period, I began noticing a persistent, dull ache in the centre of my chest and lower abdomen. In just a few months, this discomfort grew into a sharp, undeniable pain. I decided to start treating myself with acupuncture, even though self-treatment isn’t quite the same as having someone else do it — especially with points that are hard to reach. I also made some slight changes to my diet based on the 5-Elements Theory in Traditional Chinese Medicine (I'll share more about this in upcoming posts). Despite the limitations of self-treatment, I noticed significant improvements. After just the second treatment, the chest pain was completely gone, and by the fourth treatment, I hardly felt any pain in my abdomen. It was a powerful reminder of how effective these gentle practices can be.
In Chinese medicine, we never overlook the powerful impact emotions have on health. 🌸 Your emotional state is just as important a diagnostic tool as any blood test or pulse check. It helps us understand your health journey: how you got here, what’s happening now, and how we can support your healing going forward.
So, how does acupuncture help with emotions? 🤔
Emotions are energy — you can’t see or touch them, but you can feel them, just like your Qi (氣). Acupuncture is incredibly effective at helping you process and move through these emotions. It’s a gentle and supportive treatment for those dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, or even just the everyday heartache that life brings.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed or simply need more balance, acupuncture can help you regulate your emotions and feel more grounded. We all experience ups and downs, but you don’t have to navigate them alone. Acupuncture is here to help you through it naturally. 💛
